Some Spooky Cold Fall Weather So Far this Month!

 


To no one's surprise, the first two weeks of October has been the coldest on record. So far, average temperatures for the month are running 10 to 16 degrees below normal. Team those numbers with widespread snowfall on the 9th and 10th, and several other wet periods since the 1st, and you have the recipe for record breaking cold.

The following tables detail temperatures from October 1-14, 2009 at five locations in south central Nebraska or north central Kansas. As mentioned, it's the coldest first 14 days of October on record, and the competition isn't even close. The driving force for temperatures this month has been daily high temperaures averaging as much as 18 to 22 degrees below normal. Low temperatures have not been quite as extreme, averaging 6 to 12 degrees below normal. This information will give an idea of just how cold its been, and where those numbers stand in the record books.
