November High Temperatures Warmer than October!

Average High Temperatures In November Were Warmer Than In October

In a very unusual turn of events, the average high temperatures in Grand Island, Hastings, and Kearney were actually warmer in November than in October. This has happened only one other time in over 100 years of record keeping, which was back in 1925. However, the difference in the temperature spread was greater this time around than in 1925, with the November 2009 average max temperature an easy 2 to 3 degrees warmer than the October 2009 average max temperature. Back in 1925, the difference was merely a few tenths of a degree.

What does it take to get November to be warmer than October? Let's just say it's pretty difficult when you consider that the average high temperature at the start of October is in the lower 70s and it falls off to around 40 by the last day of November. So this year it took October being around 7 to 8 degrees below average, and then November being around 7 degrees above average.

Despite the average high temperature being warmer in November than October, the average low temperature and overall average monthly temperature were actually just barely warmer in October than November. See the numbers below.
