CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS...

NOW THAT THE ARCTIC AIRMASS OF THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS IS RELEASING
ITS GRIP...IT`S TIME TO TAKE A LOOK BACK AT THE FIRST 9 DAYS OF
JANUARY...AND HOW TEMPERATURES DURING THIS STRETCH COMPARED TO THE
COLDEST FIRST NINE DAYS OF JANUARY ON RECORD.

ACCORDING TO TEMPERATURE RECORDS AT FIVE CHOSEN LOCATIONS ACROSS
SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA OR NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS...THE FIRST NINE DAYS
OF THIS MONTH TYPICALLY RANKED BETWEEN THE 3RD THROUGH 6TH COLDEST
STARTS TO JANUARY ON RECORD.
THESE DETAILS ARE GIVEN BELOW. NORMAL
TEMPERATURES ARE BASED ON DATA FROM 1971-2000.

ALTHOUGH THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY 2010 WAS A COLD ONE FOR SURE...IT

EXPERIENCED LOW TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 8 TO 23 DEGREES BELOW ZERO EACH
NIGHT...AND THE DAILY HIGHS NEVER CLIMBED HIGHER THAN 10 ABOVE.
