Graphical Hazardous Weather Outlook (HWO) Available In New Location On Web Page

Although NWS Hastings has produced a daily Graphical Hazardous Weather Outlook (HWO) for several years now, this product is now available via a thumbnail image link on the bottom left side of the main web page (see image below). Hopefully, this new location will allow for better visibility and accessibility of this product.

The Graphical HWO is issued in conjunction with the traditional text HWO product. If any part of the Hastings County Warning Area is under a threat for hazardous weather during the next 7 days, the associated graphics for "Today and Tonight" and "Days 2 Through 7" highlight the type of hazard(s) and area(s) of concern. A third graphic, "Spotter Activation" outlines locations where spotter activation for severe thunderstorms may be necessary. Although the graphics do not contain city or county labels, please note that the outlined area denotes the 30-county NWS Hastings County Warning Area, shown here.

These graphical HWO images are also available on the NWS Hastings Winter Weather Information and Severe Weather Information pages.

Although the text and graphical HWO products are always issued AT LEAST once daily between 4am-7am, they are updated whenever hazardous weather conditions change. In addition, during the primary thunderstorm season (April - September), the HWO products are routinely updated between 2pm-4pm.

If you have any comments or questions about the Graphical HWO product, please feel free to e-mail the NWS Hastings webmaster  at:
