April 2010 Weather Summary

                   April 2010              

 

April 2010 turned out to be another warm month at Grand Island and Hastings.  The average monthly temperature in Grand Island was 54.3 degrees, which was 4.4 degrees above normal.  The average monthly temperature in Hastings was 54.4 decrees, which was 3.8 degrees above normal.  Precipitation was above normal in Hastings, and below normal in Grand Island.  Hastings received 3.60 inches of precipitation, which was 0.73 inch above normal.  Grand Island tallied 1.94 inches, which was 0.67 inch below normal.

No records were set at Grand Island or Hastings during the month of April.

The following is a summary of noteworthy weather events across south central Nebraska and north central Kansas during April: 

  • April 6-7:  April showers brought widespread rainfall to our region.  Click here for rainfall amounts.
  • April 7:  Strong north winds had gusts in excess of 35 and 45 mph.  Click here for the wind speeds.
  • April 13:  A week later, winds were strong again, this time from the south.  Click here for the wind speeds.
  • April 13-16:  Widespread rain tallied amounts in excess of 1 and 2 inches for many locations .  Click here for the rainfall totals.
