Heavy Rainfall:
Widespread heavy rainfall of 1.5 to over 3 inches fell across areas generally along and north of Highway 92 in central and east central Nebraska on Thursday morning, June 10, 2010. Due to the fact that much of this rain fell after the "standard" reporting time for rainfall observers (7-8 AM), true storm total rainfall are somewhat limited at this time. However, based on known gauge readings and radar estimates, the heaviest rain targeted the following counties: Valley, Greeley,Nance, northern Polk, and northern Howard.
The image below depicts the radar estimated storm total precipitation through 11 AM, June 10th. The bottom of the image roughly corresponds with Interstate 80, and the top of the image extends up into Holt and Antelope Counties. ***Please note that in general, the radar estimates in this image are likely overdone by 20-40%, which is typical of radar rainfall estimations from thunderstorms.*** Nonetheless, all areas shaded in yellow or orange likely received between 2-3+ inches.

Listed below are several of the highest rainfall totals reported to NWS Hastings. Please note that many of these are NOT storm-total amounts, but do reflect the majority of the rain. The highest amounts that are likely near-storm-total include 3.03 inches in Fullerton (NWS Cooperative Observer), 2.45 inches in Greeley (NWS Cooperative Observer) and 2.45 inches two miles south of Genoa along the Loup River (USGS river gauge).
