Extremely Active Severe Weather Pattern (June 19-22)

Although June is typically an active month of severe weather for south central Nebraska and north central Kansas, much of the area dealt with one round of severe weather after another during the 4-day period between Saturday, June 19th - Tuesday, June 22, 2010.

Dozens of reports of damaging winds, large hail, flooding rainfall, and even a few tornadoes were received during this time. The main culprits for this multi-day onslaught of severe weather and flooding were a nearly stationary surface front draped near the Nebraska-Kansas state line, and a persistent train of low pressure systems moving in from the western United States. As seen in the "interactive" map of storm reports below, the majority of severe weather during this time targeted north central Kansas, and also portions of south central Nebraska along and south of I-80. Most locations north of I-80 within the NWS Hastings coverage area were spared widespread coverage of severe storms.
