Severe Weather Summary:

Despite a lack of deep layer wind shear in the atmosphere, an extremely unstable airmass resulted in isolated severe storm development within a narrow corridor across south central Nebraska during the evening hours of July 15th. The initial severe storm development took place between 6:00 and 7:00 PM in southern Adams County, and this storm slowly evolved and drifted northeast over the next few hours, passing over the Grand Island, Clarks and Silver Creek areas. At times, damaging wind gusts resulted, with preliminary damage reports from the Roseland, Grand Island and Silver Creek areas. Parts of north central Kansas within the NWS Hastings coverage area saw a bit more widespread rainfall from afternoon and evening storms, but these storms were not severe.

Here are a few "highlights" of the event, based on reports from storm spotters, local law enforcement, emergency management, and the public:

  • Uprooted trees in Grand Island Cemetery, near the intersection of Highway 281 and Stolley Park Road
  • Uprooted tree and also some structural damage to a grain elevator in Roseland (Adams County)
  • Measured 62 MPH wind gust in Silver Creek (Merrick County)
