Kearney Sets Two Daily Rainfall Records (October 8th and 10th)

...RECORD 24-HOUR RAINFALL TOTALS AT KEARNEY FOR OCTOBER 7TH AND 10TH...

As a slow-moving upper level low pressure system passed through the Central Plains between Friday, Oct. 7th and Sunday, Oct. 9th, 2011, the NWS Cooperative Observer at Kearney Regional Airport established TWO new 24-hour rainfall records, one for the period ending at 7 AM on the 8th, and the other for the period ending at 7 AM on the 10th. Details regarding both of these 24-hour records are given in the tables below. Total rainfall for the 96-hour period covering Oct. 6th-10th tallied 4.82 inches. Precipitation records at Kearney date back to 1895.

  • Please Note: All precipitation records for Kearney are now based on 24-hour reports from the Cooperative Observer located at Kearney Regional Airport, with totals covering the past 24 hours ending at 7 AM.  Although the automated weather sensor (AWOS) is used for various climatological reports, the official source of record data is the Cooperative Observer.

(Please keep in mind that the airport is the official weather observing station for Kearney, and precipitation totals there may not always be representative of what fell in other parts of the city.)
