Record High Temperatures For January 30th Broken In The Tri-Cities

On Monday, January 30, 2012, the combination of warm southwest breezes and sunshine resulted in record-high temperatures for the date in Grand Island, Hastings and Kearney, Nebraska. These highs ranged from 31 to 32 degrees above normal for late January! The details follow...


The January 30th high temperature at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island was 69 degrees. This smashed the previous record of 64 degrees set 81 years ago in 1931. This was the warmest high temperature on ANY day in January since a reading of 70 degrees on Jan. 15, 2006.

  • The all-time warmest January temperature on record was 76 degrees on Jan. 10, 1990

The official NWS Cooperative Observer at the Kearney Regional Airport reported a high temperature of 68 degrees on January 30th. This broke the previous record of 64 degrees set 81 years ago in 1931.

  • The all-time warmest January temperature on record was 77 degrees on Jan. 10, 1990      
  • All records for Kearney are based on the Cooperative Observer report. Although the automated weather sensor (AWOS) at the airport is used for various climatological reports, the official source of record data is the Cooperative Observer.

     January temperature records at Kearney date back to 1903.

The January 30th high temperature at Hastings Municipal Airport was 69 degrees. This smashed the previous record of 64 degrees set 81 years ago in 1931. This was the warmest high temperature on ANY day in January since a reading of 71 degrees on Jan. 15, 2006.
