 For much of the NWS Hastings coverage area, June 2012 marked the ninth month in a row, and the 12th month out of the last 13 to feature above normal temperatures.  Unfortunately, precipitation totals across much of the area during June fell short of normal values, helping fuel a building drought situation. WHEN FACTORING IN BOTH THE HIGHS AND LOWS WAS 73.8 DEGREES...OR 4.6
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. BY FAR THE GREATEST CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE
WARM MONTH WAS DAILY MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES...WHICH AVERAGED 88.2
DEGREES...OR 7.0 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. WITH THE NOTABLE EXCEPTION OF
THE VERY 1ST DAY OF THE MONTH...THE MAJORITY OF JUNE WAS MARKED BY
DAILY TEMPERATURES EITHER VERY CLOSE TO NORMAL...OR WELL ABOVE
NORMAL.  EXAMINING WEEK-LONG STRETCHES...THE HOTTEST WEEK OF THE
MONTH CAME RIGHT AT THE END BETWEEN THE 24TH-30TH...DURING WHICH SIX
DAYS REACHED AT LEAST 91 DEGREES. THE OVERALL COOLEST WEEK OF THE
MONTH IN TERMS OF DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURES OCCURRED BETWEEN THE
10TH-16TH...DURING WHICH ONLY TWO DAYS EXCEEDED 85 DEGREES. THE
HOTTEST DAY OF THE MONTH WAS THE 18TH...WHEN IT REACHED 102 DEGREES.
BY FAR THE COOLEST DAY OF THE MONTH WAS THE 1ST...WITH A HIGH OF
68 AND A LOW OF 39.

PRECIPITATION WISE...THE MONTHLY TOTAL OF 0.33 INCHES AT EVELYN
SHARP FIELD WAS A PALTRY 8 PERCENT OF THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF 4.12
INCHES. OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS...ORD NOW STANDS A NOTABLE 6.10
INCHES BELOW NORMAL IN PRECIPITATION.

THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF THE MONTH...44 MPH FROM THE SOUTH...WAS
MEASURED ON THE LATE EVENING OF THE 22ND IN ASSOCIATION WITH A WAKE
LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT DEVELOPED BEHIND A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS TO
THE SOUTH AND WEST. ALTHOUGH NO WIND DAMAGE WAS REPORTED IN THE CITY
OF ORD FROM THIS EVENT...DAMAGE TO IRRIGATION PIVOTS AND
OUTBUILDINGS WAS REPORTED FROM HIGHER WIND GUSTS IN THE NEARBY
ARCADIA AREA.
