Recent Temperature/Precip Trends For Grand Island, Ord and Alton KS

...TEMPERATURE/PRECIPITATION TIDBITS FROM THE JULY 2012 HOT/DRY STRETCH
FOR GRAND ISLAND NE...ORD NE...AND ALTON KS (UPDATED JULY 28, 2012)...

FOLLOWING A NOTABLY HOT 11-DAY STRETCH CENTERED FROM
JUNE 26 TO JULY 6, 2012...SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL
KANSAS CAUGHT A NICE BREAK WITH 5 STRAIGHT DAYS OF NEAR NORMAL TO
BELOW NORMAL READINGS. HOWEVER...STARTING ON JULY 12...AN EVEN LONGER
STRETCH OF SIGNIFICANT HEAT AND DRYNESS GOT UNDERWAY. LOOKING BACK OVER
2012 AS A WHOLE THROUGH LATE JULY...MUCH OF THE AREA IS OFF TO ONE THE WARMEST
STARTS TO ANY YEAR ON RECORD...AND VARIOUS PARTS OF THE AREA HAVE MEASURED SOME
OF THEIR LOWEST YEAR-TO-DATE PRECIPITATION TOTALS. THIS
COMBINATION OF HEAT AND LACK OF RAIN...ESPECIALLY SINCE EARLY JUNE...HAS RESULTED
IN A RAPID DOWNWARD SPIRAL IN DROUGHT CONDITIONS...WITH MOST OF THE AREA NOW
IN SEVERE TO EXTREME DROUGHT ACCORDING TO THE LATEST U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR.

DRY IT HAS BEEN THIS YEAR...THE INFORMATION BELOW HIGHLIGHTS JUST
