July 2012 Climate Summaries For Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, Ord

For much of the NWS Hastings coverage area, July 2012 marked thetenth month in a row, and the 13th month out of the last 14 to feature above normal temperatures. Of more significance, a historical dry spell continued for parts of the area, especially for counties north of Interstate 80. In fact, places such as Ord suffered not only their driest July on record, but also their driest June-July combined period on record. Furthermore, places such as Osceola didn't even receive measurable rain during July! As a result, some of the worst drought conditions seen in several decades overtook parts of the area, with the July 24th U.S. Drought Monitor indicating severe to exceptional drought across the entire NWS Hastings coverage area. See below for a wealth of July 2012 climate details specifically for Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney and Ord...and stay tuned to the top of our website during the coming days for a comprehensive look at July 2012 climate and weather information for the entire 30-county NWS Hastings coverage area...
