April 10, 2013: Record-Cold High Temperatures in Grand Island, Hastings

Wednesday, April 10, 2013,  was quite frigid by April standards across the NWS Hastings coverage area, as widespread cloud cover along with occasional light snow and freezing drizzle kept high temperatures down between the upper-20s and lower-30s.   Places such as Grand Island and Hastings set or tied record-cold highs for the date. The details follow below...


The April 10, 2013, high temperature at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island was only 31°. This tied the previous record-cold high for the date of set in both 1997 and 1995. The "normal" April 10th high temperature based on 30-year climate normals is 61°.

  • The last time a high temperature was this cold on any day in April was back in 2003, when it only reached 31° on April 7th

  • The coldest high temperature on record for any day in April was 19° on April 2, 1936

The April 10, 2013, high temperature at Hastings Municipal Airport was 30°. This broke the previous record-cold high for the date of  31° set in both 1997 and 1995 . The "normal" April 10th high temperature based on 30-year climate normals is 61°.
