NWS Grand Junction radar out of service due to apparent lightning strike

An apparent lightning strike has caused significant damage to the NWS Grand Junction Doppler Radar located on top of the Grand Mesa east of Grand Junction. Parts to repair the radar are on the way and our electronics team will head up just as soon as the weather is safe on Saturday (requires snow mobiles or a Snowcat at elevations in excess of 10,000 ft).

Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories remain in effect for much of western Colorado and eastern Utah through this weekend. Any weather reports you have will be greatly appreciated. You can take a look at nearby radars by following this link:http://www.crh.noaa.gov/gjt/?n=surroundingradars

We will let everyone know once the repairs have been made.
