The developing system by the Federal Highway Administration, involves dialing "511" in the state you are in. This also works with cell phones while you are traveling. A great part of this is that if you select option number 4 on the Colorado 511 number, you get a listing of the toll-free numbers for surrounding states OR you can have the system TRANSFER you to the next state.

The following map shows the states that have this service as of December, 2010:
