Test Tornado warnings for Colorado...April 21, 2009

TEST TORNADO WARNING issuances by National Weather Service offices are planned for Colorado on 4-21-09 between 0800 & 1100 MDT per FCC agreement. The test will be canceled if severe weather is expected that day.  This test will be held in conjunction with Colorado's Severe Weather Awareness Week, April 19-25.

The Grand Junction National Weather Service (NWS) office plans to issue a TEST TORNADO WARNING for Colorado counties west of the continental divide at approximately 0830 MDT on 4-21-09 (Tuesday morning).

Again, this will only be a TEST of warning systems in Colorado, including NOAA Weather Radio (NWR).  EAS activation will also occur where media partners wish to activate their radio or TV stations.

This TEST warning is performed only once every year in Colorado, and should be used as an opportunity to make sure (NWR) receivers and other warning notification systems are properly programmed to activate for warning notifications.

The intent of this TEST TORNADO WARNING is to provide everyone with an opportunity to be better prepared for REAL weather warnings and other hazardous events.
