Advanced Spotter Class

An advanced storm spotter class will be held Monday, May 1, 2006 at 7:00 pm CDT in Colby, Kansas at the Community Building.  This class is free and open to all persons interested in severe storm spotting.  It is recommended that you attend a basic storm spotting class before attending this advanced class, since knowledge of basic storm structure will be assumed.

The session will last approximately two hours and will discuss storm structure, storm rotation and storm evolution in more detail, with emphasis on supercell storms.  Surface weather patterns favoring severe weather will be introduced, including topics such as variations in storm movement and basic radar interpretation as it applies to severe storms.  The latest theories on tornado formation will also be presented.
