This visible satellite image taken around 9:00 am MDT this morning (Saturday) provides a birds-eye view of the snow which resulted from the storm system affecting the area Thursday night and Friday. Most of the white areas shown on the image across eastern Colorado and in Kansas west of about Dodge City are snow, while the white areas further east are clouds from the exiting weather system. The dashed blue line is an approximate northern extent of the snow cover.
This large storm system emerged onto the central High Plains Friday about 100 miles further south than initial forecasts had indicated. As a result, the most significant snowfall of 10-12 inches occurred over southeast Colorado into southwest Kansas, rather than across northwest Kansas.
