tornado damage near Atwood

On the evening of April 23, several supercells formed along a warm front.  The National Weather Service in Goodland received several reports of flash flooding, large hail (up to golf ball size), and tornadoes.  There were about a half dozen tornadoes with in the Goodland County Warning Area in a area extending approximately from Sharon Springs to Herndon. Storm assessments have been completed on two of the tornado tracks; a tornado rated a strong EF1 on the Enhance Fujita Scale caused damage to a residence 13 miles SSE of Atwood.  Another tornado rated EF0 caused damage to trees, a grain bin, and minor damage to a residence.  Due to flooding and impassable roads, storm assessment teams from the National Weather Service in Goodland were unable to complete any other storm assessments. As soon as is possible, storm assessments will be completed on the other tornado reports received on April 23. Keep checking this website for the latest details
