Severe Thunderstorms developed near a warm front over the tri-state region resulting in a very active weather day. The National Weather Service office in Goodland received several reports of large hail, strong winds, and tornadoes. Further details on number and strength of tornadoes will be available over the next few days as storm survey teams assess damage. Severe Weather is possible again tomorrow.

...SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK ACROSS THE TRI-STATE AREA THURSDAY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING...

TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVED ACROSS THE TRI-
STATE AREA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE MANY REPORTS OF HAIL AND STRONG WINDS NORTH OF INTERSTATE 70...THE MOST DAMAGING STORMS PRODUCED TORNADOES...MAINLY EAST OF A LINE FROM MCCOOK NEBRASKA TO OAKLEY KANSAS.


THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS CURRENTLY COMPILING DATA TO
DETERMINE THE EXACT NUMBER....LOCATIONS...AND DURATIONS OF THE
VARIOUS TORNADOES.  PRELIMINARY ESTIMATES PUT THE NUMBER OF
TORNADOES THAT OCCURRED THROUGH THIS EVENING AT NINE.  THESE
TORNADOES RANGED FROM BRIEF TOUCHDOWNS TO SEVERAL THAT WERE ON THE GROUND FOR APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES. THE LONGEST LIVED TORNADO BEGAN AROUND 515 PM CDT NEAR SELDEN KANSAS AND DISSIPATED AROUND 615 PM CDT IN NORTHERN DECATUR COUNTY.

FIVE HOMES WERE DAMAGED IN DECATUR COUNTY. THE FEED LOT NORTH OF OBERLIN WAS ALSO DAMAGED. A FEW HOMES WERE DAMAGED IN SHERIDAN COUNTY...ONE NORTHWEST OF SELDEN AND ONE NORTHWEST OF HOXIE. SOME SHEDS AND A BARN WERE DAMAGED IN NORTHERN GOVE COUNTY.

NO INJURIES OR FATALITIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL SEND AN ASSESSMENT TEAM TO REVIEW THE DAMAGE EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.
