5/23/08 Severe Weather Outbreak

Severe Weather Outbreak

5/23/08

For more information please see our story on the 5/22 to 5/23

A very unstable airmass once again developed across the Tri-State area today. A  persistant, strong trough of low pressure aloft across the the southwest United States provided strong wind shear and lift across the area. The combination of very unstable air and strong wind shear once again allowed for the development of tornadic supercells. Several long tracked tornadoes occured across the area causing damage to several locations. Storm survey teams will survey the area tomorrow and will provide specific information on the tornadoes tomorrow. Very heavy rain also occured across the eastern half of the area, with amounts around 7 inches reported in Norton county since Thursday. The heavy rain caused widespread flooding across the area.

This page will be updated with more information and pictures as it becomes available.
