Colby Kansas Tornado, August 7, 2006 -Radar Loop

Storms rapidly developed and moved across Thomas County during the duration of the loop from 6:05 pm CDT through 7:05 pm CDT. A warm front was oriented from east to west in central portions of the county with easterly winds and moist air along and to the north of the boundary. Storms developed where surface convergence was maximized and interacted with the existing boundary. This contributed to a brief window of increased tornado probability across central Thomas County , specifically near the Colby, Kansas area. A tornado developed at 6:49 pm CDT and lasted for approximately ten minutes. The sixth frame (6:54 pm) of the loop is when the tornado is occurring west-northwest of Colby.
