Gem NWR transmitter off-air today for an upgrade

The NOAA Weather Radio transmitter in Gem, Kansas will be off-the-air today, October 9, from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm MDT.  A new generator is being installed at the site which will require the transmitter to be powered down while the upgrade takes place.  The Gem transmitter, WXK-96 operating on 162.400 MHz, serves nine counties in northwest Kansas: Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Wallace, Logan and Gove.  During the outage, residents in these nine counties will be unable to receive regular programming today, or the weekly NOAA Weather Radio test which occurs Wednesdays at 11:10 am MDT (12:10 pm CDT).  We apologize for this inconvenience, however, residents will be better served once the generator upgrade is complete.
