Coldest February Since 1936

February 2014 will go down in the record books as one of the coldest Februarys on record. Here is a look at the February temperature data at Green Bay, Rhinelander and Wausau. Data for other locations in north-central and northeast Wisconsin are at the bottom of the page.

At Green Bay:

The average temperature for the month was 8.0 degrees or 12.3 degrees below normal.   February 2014 will go down in the record books as the 3rd coldest February on record and the coldest February since 1936. Records at Green Bay date back to 1886.

The total heating degrees day for the month was 1,588 or the 4th most heating degree days during the month of February.  The following February's had more heating degree days:  1,750 in 1936, 1,690 in 1904 and 1,591 in 1917.

 At Rhinelander:

The average temperature for the month was 4.3 degrees or 12.1 degrees below normal.   February 2014 will go down in the record books as the 4th coldest February on record and the coldest February since 1936.  Records at Rhinelander date back to 1908.

The total heating degrees day for the month was 1,691 or the 4th most heating degree days during the month of February.  The following February's had more heating degree days:  1,913 in 1936, 1,786 in 1917 and 1,731 in 1923.  

At Wausau:

The average temperature for the month was 6.3 degrees or 12.8 degrees below normal. February 2014 will go down in the record books as the 5th coldest February on record and the coldest February since 1936. Records at Wausau date back to 1895.
