MIC Gary Austin Retires

NWS Green Bay Meteorologist-in-Charge Gary Austin retires February 28 after 32 years of federal service.

Gary began his career with the federal government as a physical scientist with the U.S. Navy Research Laboratory in Groton, Connecticut. He spent 15 years with the Navy Lab working on projects related to submarines and sonar. As he always had an interest in meteorology, he decided to take a leave of absence from the government to pursue a degree in meteorology. He received his Master's Degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois.

Gary's first position with the National Weather Service was at the Duluth, Minnesota office where he was the Science and Operations Officer from 1995 to 1999. He's served as MIC at WFO Green Bay since July 1999.
