Fall Storm impacting the area

Wind and marine headlines that are currently in effect:

 

Storm Warning:  Valid for the nearshore waters until 8am Tuesday morning.  Threats include:

  • Very high waves in excess of 14 feet Today and Tonight
  • Beach erosion with the high waves
  • Minor coastal flooding in some locales

 

High Wind Warning: Valid until 5am Tuesday for the lakeshore countiesThreats include:

  • Damaging wind gusts over 60 mph
  • Power outages and some damage to trees are very possible Today and Tonight

 

Wind Advisory: Valid until 5am Tuesday for inland counties.  Threats include:

  • Sustained winds at times over 30 mph with gusts into the 45 to 55 mph range
  • Localized power outages and damage to trees are possible Today and Tonight

 

A strong fall storm will be impacting our area today and tonight as a low pressure center moves through the Great Lakes region.  The low pressure system will move from Lake Superior Monday morning to portions of southern Ontario by Tuesday morning. Southwest Lower Michigan will be located in a tight pressure gradient which will produce strong winds across the entire area. Wind gusts toward the Lake Michigan coast may reach 60 mph, while gusts inland push into the 45 to 55 mph range. The graphic below shows the position of the low at 800 pm this evening.
