Grand Rapids high of 72 degrees Sunday tied the record set in 1931. The high of 71 degrees at Muskegon Sunday broke the previous record of 66 degrees in 1945. The 70 degrees high at Lansing missed their daily record of 71 degrees set in 1915 by one degree.
While you may think it is unusual for the high temperature to reach the 70s in November, last November (2008) both Grand Rapids and Lansing had highs in the 70s from the 3rd through the 6th. Muskegon reached the lower 70s on the 6th. Normally we see 70 degrees or warmer in November at Lansing and Grand Rapids about once every 3 years. At Muskegon it normally occurs once every eight years.
What is much more unusual is that at Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Muskegon the highest temperature of November 2009, is now warmer than the highest temperature in October 2009. That has only happened one other time in Grand Rapids weather records, in 1987. At Lansing it has happened five other times, 1987, 1981, 1895, 1888 and 1864. In Muskegon it happened three other times beside this year, 2005, 1961 and 1933.
