Lake Effect Snow Advisory

A Lake Effect Snow Advisory is in effect until midnight tonight for Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, and Van Buren Counties.  Lake effect snow showers will continue on and off through Thursday, and may impact travel. Numerous slide-offs have already been reported during the Wednesday morning commute due to slick spots. This is the first day of winter driving conditions for many people, so use extra caution and allow extra travel time. Conditions through Thursday will not be ideal for widespread heavy snow, but here are the expected impacts:

  • Snow showers will accumulate 3-5" by midnight near and west of U.S. 131.
  • Snow showers will accumulate 1-3" by midnight inland away from Lake Michigan.
  • The evening commute will be impacted by steadier snow showers and slick roads at times.

Below is our storm total snowfall forecast, from tonight through Friday morning.  The darker blues indicate heavier snowfall.
