High Risk for Rip Currents Today

A high risk for rip currents continues on Lake Michigan today following the passage of a significant cold front yesterday.  Here are the expected impacts for mariners and beach goers today:

  • High risk for life threatening rip currents
  • Waves 5 to 8 feet this morning and afternoon, diminishing to 3 feet or less late tonight

A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until late tonight due to the higher waves.  Conditions will continue to be dangerous to life threatening for beach goers.  Pay attention to the flags at the state parks.  Do not enter the water under these conditions; there have already been possible drownings reported in Lake Michigan.
