Damage from Storms July 4-5

Two rounds of severe thunderstorms impacted Southwest Lower Michigan during the afternoon and evening hours on July 4 and then again during the overnight hours into July 5.  Very large hail of baseball size was reported in Remus Wednesday evening.  Pictures of this hail can be seen on our Facebook page at:

Some trees were also taken down in the Mt. Pleasant area with these thunderstorms.  A second round of severe thunderstorms moved in from the U.P. and Northern Lower Michigan during the overnight hours after fireworks were over.  These storms caused some damage to trees and power lines from Walkerville in Oceana County to the greater Lansing area.  Both spotters and ASOS gauges measured wind gusts around 60 mph at times.

A third round of thunderstorms impacted areas near Lansing and Jackson during the afternoon hours on July 5.  These storms were responsible for bringing some trees down in the Dimondale and Eaton Rapids areas as well as portions of Jackson County.  Some small hail was also reported at times with these storms.

Below is a summary of storm reports from the two rounds of thunderstorms:
