July Sets New Records!

Below is a summary of the record information regarding the July heat wave.  Also included is the number of 90 degree days or greater for Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Muskegon.

 

..RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE SET AT GRAND RAPIDS MI  
 
A RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 91.1 DEGREES WAS SET AT  
GRAND RAPIDS MI DURING THE MONTH OF JULY. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS  
RECORD OF 91.0 DEGREES SET IN JULY 1921. THIS IS ALSO NOW THE  
HIGHEST AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDED DURING ANY MONTH OF THE  
YEAR ON RECORD FOR GRAND RAPIDS.  
 
THIS JULY WAS THE SECOND WARMEST ON RECORD IN TERMS OF AVERAGE  
TEMPERATURE WITH A READING OF 79.2 DEGREES. THE WARMEST JULY ON  
RECORD WAS 1921 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 79.7 DEGREES.  
 
ON JULY 6...GRAND RAPIDS REACHED 104 DEGREES WHICH IS THE 3RD  
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED.  
 
FINALLY...GRAND RAPIDS NEVER DIPPED BELOW 60 DEGREES FOR THE MONTH.  
THIS HAS NOT OCCURRED DURING ANY MONTH OF THE YEAR SINCE RECORD  
KEEPING BEGAN IN 1892.
 
..RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE SET AT LANSING MI  
 
A RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 77.8 DEGREES WAS SET AT  
LANSING MI...BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 77.7 DEGREES SET IN  
1955. THIS IS NOW THE WARMEST JULY ON RECORD AND THE WARMEST MONTH  
ON RECORD FOR LANSING SINCE RECORD KEEPING BEGAN IN 1863.  
 
THE MONTHLY AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 90.0 DEGREES...THE SECOND  
HIGHEST ON RECORD. THE RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF  
90.6 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1868 REMAINS IN TACT.  
 
ON JULY 6...LANSING REACHED 103 DEGREES...SETTING A NEW ALL TIME  
RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE.
 
..MULTIPLE MONTHLY RECORDS SET AT MUSKEGON MI  
 
A RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 77.6 DEGREES WAS SET AT  
MUSKEGON MI...BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 75.9 DEGREES SET IN  
1955. THIS IS A NEW RECORD FOR JULY AND THE HIGHEST OF ANY MONTH ON  
RECORD.  
 
A RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 88.0 DEGREES WAS SET AT  
MUSKEGON MI...BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 87.1 DEGREES SET IN  
1955. THIS IS A NEW RECORD FOR JULY AND THE HIGHEST OF ANY MONTH ON  
RECORD.  
 
A RECORD MONTHLY AVERAGE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 67.3 DEGREES WAS SET  
AT MUSKEGON MI...BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 67.0 DEGREES SET IN  
2010. THIS IS A NEW RECORD FOR JULY AND THE HIGHEST OF ANY MONTH ON  
RECORD.  
 
ON JULY 6...MUSKEGON TIED THE ALL-TIME HIGHEST TEMPERATURE READING  
OF 99 DEGREES...ALSO SET ON JULY 30 1913 AND AUGUST 3 1964.
 
..NUMBER OF 90 DEGREE DAYS OR GREATER THROUGH THE END OF JULY
