Lake effect snow showers diminished during the day on Friday. This diminishing trend was temporary as a wave of low pressure moved through the region overnight Friday night and Saturday morning. Light snow picked up a bit Friday evening, and then became locally heavy at times during the pre-dawn hours of Saturday for portions of the area. The area that was hit the hardest Saturday morning was from South Haven, to just west of Ionia, to just south of Big Rapids, and then to near Whitehall.Below is an animation of the radar images from around midnight Friday night through 10 am Saturday morning.
The green colors embedded in the blue returns are some of the heaviest snow showers. The green enhanced areas were likely producing over 1 inch per hour snow rates.
The image below is a map of snowfall from 7 am Friday morning through 7 am Saturday morning. This map is mostly composed of snowfall from the event from Friday night through Saturday. There is a little snow that fell on Friday, and some snow from the Saturday morning event fell beyond 7 am Saturday. The areas that were hit the hardest Friday night/Saturday are generally shown well by the map.
The next map is a snowfall total map since Wednesday morning at 7 am. Rain changed to snow Wednesday evening, and it has been snowing on and off since. The hardest hit areas have been areas generally west of U.S.-131.
