While it is true in a typical Southwest Michigan winter that lake shore areas receive more snow than inland locations, in this winter the lake effect component of the snowfall has been even more dominant than in recent years. This winter season snowfall as seen immediately below shows much more snow west of US Highway 131 this winter than east of US Highway 131.
