Seasonal Snowfall through February 25th

While it is true in a typical Southwest Michigan winter that lake shore areas receive more snow than inland locations, in this winter the lake effect component of the snowfall has been even more dominant than in recent years. This winter season snowfall as seen immediately below shows much more snow west of US Highway 131 this winter than east of US Highway 131.

For comparison, below are accumulated snowfall from the previous 7 winters.

Note that this map below is a gridded map and the analysis is smoothed. This means that reporting stations like Muskegon that have had 86.0 inches so far this season is shown as having less then 80 inches. This is because other nearby stations like Grand Haven have only had 62.9 inches.
