Threat for Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather


A strong storm system will move across the Plains on Thursday and into the Great Lakes on Friday.  Periods of heavy rain will preceed the storm across Illinois producing generally 2 to 2.5 Inches of rain from Interstate 72 southward before the storm moves out of the area Friday Morning.  A flood watch is in effect south of a Beardstown to Danville line through 7 AM Friday Morning.

  

In addition to the heavy rain and flooding threat, there will several chances of severe weather over the next 36 hours.

As a warm front pushes northward late tonight and Thursday, storms are expected to develop along and north of the warm front.  some of the stronger storms may be capable of producing large hail and tornadoes from Midday through Middle Afternoon.

 

 

 As the storm passes northwest of the area a cold front will swing across the area Thursday Night producing a potential for large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.
