After a dry stretch of weather from late summer through much of the fall, the pattern has turned decidedly wetter over the past week. One storm system brought rain to central and southeast Illinois on Monday, November 22nd, while a second stronger storm impacted the area with significant rainfall on November 24th and 25th. Some locations in drought-stricken southeast Illinois received more rain this week alone, than they have in the last 3 months combined! Many communities south of the I-70 corridor picked up in excess of 4 inches. Meanwhile, rainfall was considerably lighter further northwest across the Illinois River Valley, where less than one inch was reported. Below are rainfall graphics from Monday Nov 22nd through Thursday Nov 25th from SWOP and Cooperative weather observers, which are also viewable from this SWOP link... http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ilx/?n=swop-precip.
