New Daily Climate Normals for 1981-2010 Now Available

Climatological normals are recalculated every 10 years.  The newest normals, for the 30-year period from 1981 through 2010, were released on July 1.  Climate summaries issued by the National Weather Service began using the new normals this month.

Here is a monthly breakdown of what has changed from the previous normals (which used the 1971-2000 period).  The following statistics are monthly normals, and the changes from the last set of normals.  Temperatures are in degrees Fahrenheit, and precipitation and snowfall are in inches.  In general, normal yearly temperatures and precipitation have increased, and normal snowfall has decreased.  The winter months have shown the greatest increase in normal temperatures.
