A slow-moving upper-level disturbance triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms across central and southeast Illinois from Friday, July 13th through Sunday, July 15th. While most areas picked up little or no rainfall, isolated spots received in excess of 2 inches! In particular, slow-moving thunderstorms dumped 2.50 southwest of Effingham, while other persistent storms produced similar amounts in Bloomington.
We would like to thank everyone for submitting their rainfall totals over the past couple of days. Given our ongoing severe drought and the scattered nature of the precipitation, reports of ZERO rainfall can also be quite helpful. With the storms over the weekend, there were many instances where one side of a certain community experienced a deluge, while just blocks away virtually nothing fell. A prime example would be in Lincoln, where we measured 1.20 here at the office 1 mile east of town, while a NWS employee who lives in Lincoln about two miles west of the weather office picked up only 0.02.
