A slow-moving storm system will bring a prolonged period of rain to central and southeast Illinois today through the upcoming weekend. The rain will be heaviest today and tonight...followed by lingering light showers through at least Sunday.
Rainfall totals will be highest across west-central Illinois...where amounts of 2 to 3 inches will be common. Further east...1 to 2 inches is expected across the remainder of central and southeast Illinois.
Given the high soil moisture content...flooding will be a distinct possibility along many area rivers and streams.
