Hot and Humid Through Friday

HOT AND HUMID WEATHER WILL CONTINUE OVER THE MIDWEST THROUGH THE REST
OF THE WORK WEEK AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS WEST INTO THE REGION.
AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB INTO THE UPPER 80S TO LOWER
90S THIS AFTERNOON WITH HEAT INDEX VALUES AROUND 100. HIGHS FROM
WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY WILL RISE TO BETWEEN 90 AND 95 DEGREES WITH
HEAT INDEX VALUES OF 100 TO 105...WITH SOME LOCALLY HIGHER VALUES
POSSIBLE IN AREAS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 70 FRIDAY AFTERNOON. WINDS ARE
NOT EXPECTED TO OFFER MUCH IN THE WAY OF RELIEF AS WIND SPEEDS WILL
BE LESS THAN 10 MPH ACROSS MOST OF THE AREA THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.
IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL VERY LATE FRIDAY NIGHT OR
SATURDAY FOR ANY COOLING TO TAKE PLACE ACROSS THE AREA AS A COLD
FRONT EDGES SOUTH INTO OUR AREA...ACCOMPANIED BY SCATTERED SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS.

THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO
CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY
OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND
CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS. WITH THE HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY
LEVELS...CHILDREN AND PETS SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN VEHICLES
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
