Effective November 1, 2013 at Noon CDT, weather forecast and warning information for Moultrie County, Illinois will be added to the weather radio broadcast on the Shelbyville/Tower Hill transmitter (station KXI-46). This is on a frequency of 162.500 MHz or channel 5 on some weather radio receivers.
Moultrie County weather information has been included in the weather radio broadcasts on the Champaign transmitter (station WXJ-76) - on a frequency of 162.550 MHz, or channel 7 on some weather radio receivers - for many years.
However, feedback from weather radio listeners in Moultrie County indicated that a stronger signal of the broadcast from the Shelbyville transmitter was being received in many locations. Weather radio signal strength tests conducted by the NWS Lincoln office confirmed this, resulting in the planned addition of Moultrie County to the Shelbyville weather radio broadcasts on November 1st.
Weather forecast and warning information for Moultrie County WILL continue to be broadcast on the Champaign weather radio transmitter. Listeners in Moultrie County can thus tune their radio to whichever station happens to come in better in their area.
Any questions or comments regarding this planned addition of Moultrie County to the Shelbyville weather radio transmitter should be addressed to NWS Lincoln Warning Coordination Meteorologist, Chris Miller via e-mail at: Chris.Miller@noaa.gov
