...A MAJOR STORM SYSTEM CONTINUES TO TRACK TOWARD CENTRAL ILLINOIS
FOR THIS WEEKEND...

...A MAJOR STORM SYSTEM WILL AFFECT CENTRAL ILLINOIS THIS
WEEKEND...

A COMBINATION OF HEAVY RAIN...FREEZING RAIN...AND SNOW CONTINUES
TO GET READY TO DEVELOP AND MOVE TOWARD PORTIONS OF CENTRAL
ILLINOIS.

THE FIRST WAVE OF PRECIPITATION WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH A COLD
FRONT THAT HAS REACHED NORTHWESTERN ILLINOIS THIS MORNING...AND
WILL MOVE SOUTHEAST ACROSS ILLINOIS TODAY. SOME LIGHT RAIN OR
DRIZZLE WILL CONTINUE NEAR THE FRONT...WITH LIGHT FREEZING RAIN
BECOMING POSSIBLE LATER TONIGHT NORTHWEST OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER.

THE MAIN PRECIPITATION WILL DEVELOP EARLY SATURDAY ACROSS THE
SOUTH AND EXPAND NORTHWARD INTO CENTRAL ILLINOIS SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING LOW PRESSURE CENTER. THE RAIN
MAY BE MIXED WITH FREEZING RAIN DURING THE DAY SATURDAY NORTHWEST
OF INTERSTATE 55...WITH HEAVY RAIN FARTHER SOUTHEAST OF INTERSTATE
55. THE HEAVIEST RAINS ARE EXPECTED SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 70...WHERE
2 TO 3 INCHES OF TOTAL RAINFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE BY THE END OF THE
WEEKEND.

ON SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY...THE LOW CENTER WILL MOVE ACROSS
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND THEN PULL TO THE NORTHEAST...DRAGGING COLDER
AIR INTO ILLINOIS. THE RESULT WILL BE RAIN OR FREEZING RAIN CHANGING
TO SNOW SATURDAY NIGHT AND INTO SUNDAY. ICING AMOUNTS COULD REACH
AROUND A TENTH OF AN INCH NORTHWEST OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER.
SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL ALSO BE THE HEAVIEST NORTHWEST OF THE
ILLINOIS RIVER...WITH 2 TO 4 INCHES POSSIBLE.

  SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN
  CENTRAL ILLINOIS...CHRISTIAN...MACON...MOULTRIE...PIATT AND
  SHELBY. IN EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS...CHAMPAIGN...CLARK...COLES...
  CUMBERLAND...DOUGLAS...EDGAR AND VERMILION. IN SOUTHEAST
  ILLINOIS...CLAY...CRAWFORD...EFFINGHAM...JASPER...LAWRENCE AND
  RICHLAND.

* FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT

* A STALLED FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL PROVIDE A FOCUS FOR A PROLONGED
  RAIN EVENT OVER EAST CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS. RAINFALL
  TOTALS FROM 2 TO 3 INCHES WITH LOCALLY 3 TO 4 INCHES NEAR THE
  WABASH RIVER ARE EXPECTED. THE HEAVIEST RAIN IS EXPECTED TO FALL
  DURING THE DAY SATURDAY AND SATURDAY EVENING. THIS RAINFALL IN
  CONJUNCTION WITH SNOW MELT AND ALREADY SATURATED GROUND...IS
  EXPECTED TO CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH FLOODING DUE TO EXCESSIVE
  RUNOFF.

* IMPACTS INCLUDE FLOODED ROADS FROM OVERFLOWING FARM FIELDS AS
  WELL AS STREAMS EXCEEDING BANK FULL.
