The National Weather Service has improved its website for mobile devices. It now looks like an app. To see it, go to mobile.weather.gov on any smart phone browser. Once you are there, open up the browser's menu and select "Add to home screen" (or something similar). Now the web site will work just like an app, but there is no need to download or install anything.
Below are screen shots showing what the set to home screen option looks like in the Safari browser and the icon that will appear after completing the above step:
Once the site comes up, on your first visit, you will be prompted to enter your location:
On subsequent visits, the site will remember your previous location. You can add or change locations at any time. The current conditions will be displayed, along with a simple forecast. The screen shots below show the current conditions and basic forecast:
Touching the forecast period gives a detailed hourly forecast for that period:
Forecast graphics are also available:
Farther down on the screen are many other products to choose from, such as radar & satellite images, river information, and the ability to tweet a report if Twitter is set up on the phone.
