A New First for January at Indianapolis

January 7, 2008 marked the first time since records began in 1871 that the low temperature has stayed above 60 degrees during the month of January in the Indianapolis area.

The low of 61 degrees also shattered  the January record for warmest  daily low temperature since 1871. The previous record for the month of January was 58 degrees, set in 1950, 1909, and 1907.

January 7, 2008 had a daily average temperature of 65 degrees. This is 38 degrees above normal.
