Coolest July 4th On Record

Coolest High Temperature Ever on July 4

If it seemed like it was an unusually cool Independence Day in Indianapolis, that's because it was. In fact, it was the coolest on record, spanning all the back to when records began 137 years ago in 1871!

The high temperature yesterday at Indianapolis International Airport only reached 71 degrees, which is the coolest high temperature for the day. The previous record of 72 degrees was set on the 4th of July in 1997 and 1882.

The average Indianapolis high for the day was 85 degrees. For comparison's sake, 71 degrees would be a normal high temperature for early May rather than July.
