A powerful cold front brought temperatures crashing down during the early morning hours of December 15 across Central Indiana. Temperatures fell as much as 45 degrees in a 13 hour period across parts of the area. Below are examples of the fall, along with temperature graphs for selected cities across Central Indiana (graphs are 3 day graphs from Friday Dec. 12 evening to Monday Dec 15 evening):
At Lafayette, the temperature at 1:02 AM was 57 degrees, the high for the day. Just before 2:00 AM, the temperature had slipped to 54. Just after 2:15 AM, readings had fallen to 39 degrees, and by 6:00 AM the temperature had fallen to 22 degrees. Just before 2:00 PM, Lafayette was at 12 degrees.
At Indianapolis, around 3:30 AM, the temperature was 56 degrees. By 6:00 AM, readings had fallen to 35 degrees, and by 9:00 AM it was 22 degrees. Just after 6:00 PM, temperatures had fallen to 16 degrees.
At Terre Haute, at 2:00 AM, the temperature was 57 degrees. By 3:30 AM, readings had fallen to 39 degrees. At 6:00 AM, the thermometer indicated 28 degrees, and by a little past 1:30 PM, Terre Haute was at 15 degrees.
At Bloomington, not long before 4:00 AM, the temperature was 56 degrees. At 6:00 AM, readings had fallen to 36 degrees. By 2:00 PM, Bloomington was at 18 degrees.
