March is Red Cross Month

Every year since President Franklin Roosevelt did so in 1943, U.S. Presidents have proclaimed March as Red Cross Month in the United States, and this year is no different, as President Barack Obama has proclaimed March 2009 to be Red Cross Month, as well.

The American Red Cross is one of many vital National Weather Service partners in promoting weather awareness and preparedness at all stages - before dangerous weather threatens, during the event, and afterwards, during the response and recovery process.  The NWS is proud to have the help of the Red Cross in accomplishing our mission to protect life and property.

The Red Cross reminds us all to "Be Red Cross Ready," and at no time is this more important than Indiana's Severe Weather Preparedness Week.  Take time now to develop a safety plan, practice it, and be prepared to put it into action when the time comes.
