NOAA Weather Radio Coverage Improved for Greene County

NOAA all hazards weather radio coverage has improved for Greene County residents. Western Greene County residents have an additional channel to receive National Weather Service warnings and watches with their NOAA all hazards weather radio. Audio surveys of the radio signal strength for Greene County indicate that the Edwardsport NOAA all hazards weather radio station, WWG83, with a broadcasting frequency of 162.425 MHz, provides a stronger signal and better coverage for western Greene county than the NOAA all hazards weather radio station in Georgia, WWG72, broadcasting on a frequency of 162.500 MHz. As a result, both NOAA all hazard weather radio stations will broadcast weather information for Greene County. The change will be effective immediately and will benefit residents in western Greene County by enhancing their severe weather warning notification system. NOAA all hazards weather radio owners can choose the station with the strongest signal as their source for National Weather Service watches, warnings, and forecasts.
NOAA all hazard weather radios broadcast National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information 24 hours a day. Known as the “voice of the National Weather Service,” NOAA all hazard weather radio is provided as a public service by the Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Weather radios come in many sizes and with a variety of functions and costs. Some radio models are programmable. All weather radios serve as a round-the-clock source of weather reports and information. They also serve as a potential life-saver when severe weather threatens.
To purchase a weather radio, check with stores that sell electronics or call the National Weather Service office closest to you. More information on NOAA all hazards weather radios can be found at: www.weather.gov/nwr/
