Minutes of Sunshine Data to be Discontinued

BEGINNING OCTOBER 1 2009...DAILY SUNSHINE DATA...SPECIFICALLY MINUTES OF SUNSHINE RECEIVED AND/OR PERCENT OF POSSIBLE SUNSHINE RECEIVED...WILL BE DISCONTINUED IN THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN INDIANAPOLIS:

SUPPLEMENTARY CLIMATOLOGICAL DATA OBSERVATION  (SCD)
DAILY CLIMATE REPORT  (CLI)
PRELIMINARY LOCAL CLIMATOLOGICAL DATA  (F6) /(LCD).

THE FOSTER-FOSKETT SUNSHINE SWITCH SENSOR WHICH MEASURES MINUTES OF OBSERVED SUNSHINE IS NEARLY 60 YEARS OLD AND IS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN AND CALIBRATE.  SOLAR RADIATION DATA...CONSIDERED BEING MORE ACCURATE AND RELIABLE...IS AVAILABLE FROM THE NOAA NATIONAL CLIMATIC DATA CENTER CLIMATE REFERENCE NETWORK  (CRN), THE NOAA EARTH SYSTEM RESEARCH LABORATORY ( SURFACE RADIATION NETWORK) AND THE INDIANA STATE CLIMATOLOGIST OFFICE.  THESE DATA CAN BE FOUND AT THE FOLLOWING WEB SITES.
