August 29…Another Hot Day in Indianapolis

The temperature climbed to 96 degrees on Sunday.  This was 1 degree from tying the record temperature for the date of 97 degrees set in 1953.  Three years ago the temperature reached 95 on the same date.  A week later, September 5, the temperature reached 96.

For August, there have been 16 days when the temperature reached or exceeded 90 degrees.  The last time there were more 90 degree days in August was in 2007 which had 22.  The record for August is 23 days set in 1983.

One notable feature about the high temperatures during August is the number of days the temperature has reached or exceeded 95 degrees.  This has occurred on 9 days.  For August, this is only second to the year 1936 when this happened on 13 days.  During the Great Indiana Drought of 1988, July had 11 days when the daily temperature passed 94 degrees.

There is a chance the temperature may reach 95 again today and Wednesday.
